The view from the top. You can either go this way, following the North shore, or turn 180’ and follow the South shore. (which is what I did)

Either way, you cover about the same distance, but the North route takes you into the well-appointed town of Oakham. Here, you can see Normanton Church on the South side, lifted from its moorings when the valley was flooded, standing citadel to the elements.

This is the view you get when you eventually leave the shoreline and move to higher ground, with Rutland water behind you, about four miles further on. There is then a rather tedious trek into Manton, where I had a good lunch, actually, at the Horse & Jockey Inn.
